Waltz in C Major

Standard

A sweet sweet waltz, still recording using my laptop microphone and every movement counts. But, things are getting better, I got the new cables I’ve ordered and they are working almost perfectly.

I’ve also started to work on new music for guitar and I really hope to start recording with my lutes soon.

Enjoy the music. And don’t forget to Support my Headstart: https://headstart.co.il/project/68673

Minuet in A Minor

Standard

Yes, it’s true. No more cloud background, no more invisible Omer. We’re going back to video recording as was planned ***9*** years ago. This is the first try, you can see I’m using headphones so I wouldn’t have to listen to background noise, but next week you’ll see I got rid of those too.

You can see there are several issues with the recording, although very minor. That’s because I recorded it using the builtin microphone and Apple Photo Booth. I can’t do much with the audio quality until I get the new cables, but the video seems pretty good. Maybe I can increase the quality a bit more if requested.

I’m learning, and I’m improving. But what I really really want is to record some lute music.

oh, one last thing. I will no longer publish the music sheets. That’s for my next project. Thanks for the understanding.

Waltz in G Major

Standard

Well, this is it. I’m back with the guitar according to the changes I promised few days ago. I know, I know, it’s not perfect, there some issues to be solved, and in time I’ll solve every single issue I have.

For start, I’m recording with the built in microphone of my laptop, this causes several issues with the recording (not sure you can hear it, but I can), the microphone is not bad, but it’s not meant for guitar (or lute) I hope to solve this one in the next few weeks by ordering cables for my old audio interface. Easy fix I hope, but costs money.

Second, and again, not sure you can hear it (but I can), I recorded in my bedroom, on my bed. At some point during the recording Miss Bella decided it’s going to be fun to jump on the bed. It moved me and the laptop, it’s a minor interruption. When I get the cables to my Scarlett, I promise not to record from bed again. Hope you understand.

Three, my guitar need some fret work, after 25 years she should get some love too. Unfortunately, this will have to wait for few more months. Work on the lutes going to be expensive and I can’t afford everything at the same time. So in the next few recordings you might hear some fret buzz now and then.

And for last, is the most important issue is my mental health. Although it’s getting much better with each passing month, there’s still a lot to go. It’s going to take some time to get used to record with guitar and lute, you can defiantly hear my stress in this recording (and the next several recordings), I hope the stress reduces, getting more confident and less side effects from my meds as I’m now getting lower dosages.

I want to thank you for your patient and belief.

New Changes Incoming

Standard

So yes, I’m always working on improving myself, and together with a friend I came to some conclusions and now I’m working to implement these changes.

First of all, I stopped smoking, it’s been two weeks now. This is one major change, one of the hardest things I had to do, but I HAD to do that for other changes to happen. So goodbye smoking, and fuck you. You brought me nothing but trouble, health issues and less money.

Second, I’ve decided to teach again, after about 10 years. There are several reasons, first of all it’s good (I hope) for my mental health, I don’t see many people outside my family, I have a meeting a week with my social worker and two with my aid, and that’s pretty much it. Second, when you teach, you also learn. And I want to learn too, I want to listen to new music, new pieces I haven’t heard before, there’s a lot out there. Third, I could use some extra cash so I can buy recording equipment and record the album I want so much.

Third, I’m going to the piano less and now, yes, it means I’ll record with some basic equipment for now (some even my laptops microphone), but I play Lute and Guitar, not the piano. It’s appropriate to use my instruments. I avoided that issue for a long time, tried to delay it, but I have to do it with what I’ve got. With time, I’ll get the equipment I need (audio interface and microphones) but you are welcome to donate (information at the end)

I’m really excited with these changes, I hope you too. Please feel free to ask me for more information.

Prelude and two Minuets for Ori / Omer Katzir

Standard

First of all, forgive my poor video editing skills, I’m not a video editor, so every video I upload is a challenge, this one was even more challenging because it’s not one musical piece, but three! That been said, let us start. As the name suggests, this work start with a prelude followed by two minuets, a major one and a minor one.

A note about interpretation and articulation

I usually don’t include any articulation marks or any instructions on my music, I leave that to the performer, whoever that may be. Tempo comes in first it’s 100 for the prelude and 90 for the minuets but it’s should actually be moderato (i.e. 108-120) As for articulations, whatever sounds good for you, is probably right, just don’t go too crazy and articulate every single dotted note. In my mind, articulation should be done gracefully.

An error

At the end of the first Minuet, there’s a repeat missing (it does appears at the start of the section), I couldn’t find out why Lilypond won’t allow me to put the repeat there, so please don’t forget to repeat the section as intended.

P.S.

This is by far the most complected and longest composition I’ve written to date.

Ori’s Waltz / Omer Katzir

Standard

Nothing too much to write about, it a slow and very simple waltz dedicated to my wonderful niece, Ori Livnie.

Well, there actually few things to write about it. For one, I play in faster tempo, about 110. Second, 4th bar, I don’t play it as written, I play the first chord as dotted one and shorter with the second chord. Finally, I use different chord at the end of the second part, just go G# Minor in any position you like.

It’s more of educational piece for beginning students as it’s very easy to analyze with guitar tablature for new students without musical background. Composed at October 2nd 2020, recorded at the 9th.
